The "Sonic Youth taught Neil Young the art of feedback" came from the fact that Neil was inspired to assemble the "Arc" record after touring with Sonic Youth for Ragged Glory, so while it's an overstatement, there's some truth in it.

Some great songs came from Neil's "Experimental" albums. None of those albums stand out as classics to me, but there's some great stuff.<br /><br />A good example of this is his version of Transformer Man from unplugged. Had it been on an Acoustic album originally, people would have loved it right off the bat. He's content over style.
