Cool picture. One genius meets another. I could always appreciate the B Boys great songs and ignore the throwaways. They were at a pretty low ebb when Brian gave everybody some Good Vibrations. Blew a few minds there I'd say. And Neil. Well, I was an English major in college, and, for some reason this line really impressed me: "I was sitt'n in a burned out basement, with a full moon in my eye . . . ." Alliteration, strong original imagery: Genius, a poetic genius, no question. And I know about the cliché criticism from "back in the day," as Neil would say. More people should take note of the grammar book, Woe is I. I never noticed Neil's clichés until I heard one somewhere on Ragged Glory. So Neil broke a rule. So did Shakespeare. He's in good company. I still think RG's a great album (great, by the way, is a word Neil really likes). But it was American Stars and Bars that made me a fan forever. Man, my life in'77 tracked the Hurricane side of that album down to the campfire sparks in"Will to Love." I liked the other side too. However, when I hear it now I feel sad that Nicolette Larson is no longer with us. She sleeps with angels, as Neil would say. Anyhow, I think Shakespeare said that true art holds a mirror up to life. If so, Neil has the ability to do that. So did Brian. Neil and Brian are true artists.
